Wire Jewelry - Tips & Tricks!

Welcome back! In this week's article I wanted to share some of my top 4 tips and tricks for making wire jewelry! If you have any questions feel free to contact me through my Instagram @mandys.mystical.market

Let’s begin!

#1- Finish Off your Pieces

One mistake often found in wire jewelry is not weaving in your ends or finishing off your piece. By leaving the ends of your wire poking out, it can create several problems! Leaving your wire ends out could lead to them snagging on clothing or hair when worn. It also leaves potential for your work to unravel. If you don’t fasten down your ends, all your work could be lost! Finishing off your wire by tucking it into a tight, unnoticed space can make a world of difference. It will leave your piece looking more professional and clean. It will also prevent any malfunctions from happening. Always finish off your pieces!

#2- Fasten In your Stone

You never want to leave your piece unfastened. This could leave potential for your stone to slip out! Some ways to ensure your stone is fastened correctly is to do a little “shake test” and basically shake your piece around! This simulates what your wire jewelry could go through while being worn. If your stone isn’t fastened correctly, here are some ways you can make sure it is:

  • Make sure all sides of your stone are covered
    • (front, back, and all sides)
  • Make sure your wire is pulled and secured tight
  • Don’t leave any gaps large enough for the stone to fit through

#3- Be Unique

Buyers love original, one of a kind pieces. By creating something unseen before such as a new design or technique, people will want to buy it. Some people love simplistic jewelry that just includes the stone and the setting while others love jewelry with some design! If you are selling something truly one of a kind, buyers will only be able to purchase that from you. Having never seen before jewelry is eye catching and brings in more sales!

#4- Invest in Your Materials

My last tip is to invest in your materials. Buying better wire that won’t tarnish or turn your skin green will sell for a higher final price than cheaper wire. While it’s good to experiment with the cheaper wire, always produce your final products with good, quality wire. This also goes for your tools! Buying cheap pliers or wire cutters can leave unwanted marks or discoloration on your wire. You don’t want to have worked so hard on your wire piece only to notice any flaws on the wire. So by purchasing better tools, you can improve the quality of your jewelry. Better tools can also help you create more intricate designs and provide more overall assistance. I’ve included the link to my favorite wire and pliers here!
